Creating is part of being human, but it’s not easy to stay inspired and continuously churn out work we love. Join Summer Murdock as she reveals how she consistently manages to create new work that is personally meaningful. She will discuss the unexpected benefits that have come from three years of shooting daily, the importance of learning to make art at any stage of life, and ways to nurture creativity without letting it take over your life. You’ll learn how to avoid “creative ruts” by experimenting with different techniques, including Summer’s own use of slow shutters, difficult light, various lenses, underwater photography, freelensing, personal projects, and collaborations. Finally, she will discuss how personal work has made her more confident in client work and what it means to shoot from the heart without letting fear of failure or criticism hold you back.

1. Explore how acknowledging and cultivating your creative side can energize your work.
2. Identify the benefits of shooting daily — without letting it take over your life.
3. Learn techniques to use slow shutter speed creatively, ideas to creatively challenge yourself with difficult light, and how to experiment with different lenses (including tilt shifts) to push you to see things differently.
4. Discover ways to minimize or avoid creative ruts.
5. Understand how personal work will improve your confidence in your client work.
6. Learn how working though (and sometimes embracing) fear can strengthen your artistry.
