Limited Capacity seats available

Shooting film indoors can be very daunting due to lack of light and fear of the unknown upon arrival. We'll begin with a discussion on film stocks that are the most flexible/have the most latitude and the ones I always bring to cover my bases no matter what I'm presented with. We'll talk about how I move families around based on the light I have available to me, what metering techniques work best for different outcomes, and how to manipulate film stock in order to adjust to the scene. Afterwards, we'll move onto a shooting demonstration where I will pose a family and move them around to different lighting scenarios while metering for each scene and talking about how to adjust your settings to shoot the same roll even if your light changes. Everyone will then join in to shoot while I answer questions and continue to talk about camera settings and demonstrate posing techniques. We will end the session with a discussion about pushing film and different ratings as well as directions to give your lab on how to process.

Preferably, everyone should bring either a 35mm or medium format film camera and Kodak Portra 400 film (can also bring Kodak Portra 800 film). If you are brand new to film and would like to observe, shoot, and learn, you are certainly welcome! Please bring your digital camera and lens. Handheld meters are extremely helpful but not necessary. Students should be proficient with loading film and have a basic understanding of film concepts. There will be open Q&A throughout the discussion and shooting.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn about film stocks in low-light settings, and how to rate and have them processed.
2. Understand metering techniques.
3. Learn family posing.
4. Learn to ue available light for shooting film indoors.
