Sally Kate, known for her unique fusion of styled concept photography with authentically documented moments, will walk you through her styled session workflow from original vision to final edit, and shows you how you don't have to forfeit the real, unscripted, organic moments that are worth capturing. In this hands-on session with children, participants will learn the tools for "setting the stage" (light, location, wardrobe, props, theme, and more), but also learn when it's okay to stop directing and to just step back, pay attention, and not miss a beautiful moment.
Emphasis will be placed on light, angles, perspectives, and expression and how they can enhance your storytelling and help you capture the more "unscripted" parts of the session.
You will also learn why it's advantageous to consider your final edit while you're taking the picture, and in a follow-up PDF and editing video, sent via email after the conference, you'll see Sally's vision come alive in a start-to-finish edit of one or more of the images taken during the class.

Location:
This outdoor Boutique Program will take place around Pike Place Market, the Gum Wall and Post Alley, and/or the waterfront.
This urban area provides a lot of opportunities for interesting backgrounds and is only a few blocks away from the Westin. Pike Place Market is a busy urban market that is an iconic tourist destination. The Gum Wall and Post Alley provide interesting urban street scenes, as well as great color and texture. Beyond the Market, Gum Wall, and Post Alley, your group may venture down to the waterfront. The waterfront boardwalk area is a lovely place for capturing scenic shots of the sky, cityscape, and the ferris wheel. Please note that there are many steps required to get from the market to the waterfront. There is a small elevator available. It will take approximately 10-15 minutes to walk to Pike Place Market from the Westin, and the waterfront is an additional 10 minutes beyond the Market. To return to the Westin from the waterfront at the conclusion of the program (remember this walk is uphill), please budget 20-25 minutes.
