Creating Meaningful Portraits Indoors: Using the Light You've Got to Get the Shot (Anita Martin) FULL

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity full

Sometimes weather doesn't cooperate and you are forced to shoot a couple indoors on a dark day. Sometimes a wedding day runs behind and the sun sets before you can do portraits. Sometimes you have to work in low light and ambient light or need to supplement with artificial light. I will demonstrate an indoor photo session in one location with one natural light source where we put on our creative hats and work with the light we've got! The focus of this session is on being close and creating natural connection in images without having access to beautiful sweeping landscapes.

Attendees will be shooting alongside me during this demonstration with a couple. Please bring your camera and favorite lenses for shooting indoors. Students should have some experience shooting in manual mode. Photographers of all levels can learn from the hands-on posing elements of this class. I will provide a video light for attendees to use during the demonstration, as needed.

The shooting demonstration will be with a couple, however the program is relevant to photographers shooting families in a client's home where the lighting situation is not ideal. I will talk about using light to flatter the woman and using light to highlight emotion. Light is powerful when used to show off connection and a couples session in low light is the best way to keep it simple and focus on what is most important - their relationship. You can be romantic and moody and create powerful sensual images or you can be silly and fun and still create images that show joy and really capture their personalities!

This class will dive right into finding light and will include hands-on posing and a brief overview of how to use your gear to best shoot in low light. I will talk in depth about connecting with my clients during the demonstration. When you are in close quarters with your subjects it is so important to earn their trust so the images will reflect their true personalities. I will also demonstrate posing and lighting techniques with a video light and answer questions about post-processing and editing ideas and tips for images taken in a low light setting.

Learning Objectives:
1. How to search for and find light in any environment, creating light if necessary, and using that light to highlight and flatter your subjects.
2. Posing in a small space, using creative posing techniques and interaction to add a sense of movement and authenticity.
3. Connecting with people in a small environment and using that connection to capture meaningful images.
4. Post processing ideas and concepts from a session in low light.
