Join me as I walk attendees step-by-step through a live family shoot (with a real family at the session). I will describe what I’m looking for in a great photo, how I set up shots, and the moments I’m trying to achieve. You’ll get an in depth look at how I bring images to life with moments of truth and movement. My goal is to help you capture the imperfect beauty that surrounds a family session, and to help you be able to show your clients how these moments with feeling and messes are so beautiful to capture and will bring back a truthful memory when clients look at them. My goal with family photography is to capture it as it is, to show how they love and how they connect, and I’m going to show you just how I do that. I will be shooting in manual mode and explaining my settings as I go, but shooting in manual is not a requirement for attendees, as it is the “big picture” of family photography that I want to bring to light. Bring your camera and lenses (ideally a wide angle lens) as I will like attendees to practice what I am teaching. Bring a notebook and pen to jot down some notes as you go. I will open it up for questions during the last 10 minutes of our time together.

Westlake Park and the streets around the Westin and Westlake Center Mall will provide an urban background without venturing too far. It takes approximately 3-5 minutes to travel to these locations.
