The Art of Freelensing (Anna Larson)

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity filling up

Freelensing is a technique that gives a beautiful, painterly feel to a photograph and allows freedom when creating. It can be tricky at first and because there's no black and white when utilizing this technique, I want you to build confidence as you learn. We'll be covering the basics of how freelensing is accomplished and how it can be used to add depth and interest to an image. Through discussion and hands on participation with child models, you'll be taught how to effectively freelens for portraiture, including instruction on subject movement, shooting through objects, reverse freelensing (creating a macro effect), and how it can be used in different natural light conditions. All of these techniques will be demonstrated and you'll have the opportunity to practice as you're taught. This will be a very fun and interactive class -- we'll be making art together!

Attendees should know how to shoot in manual mode and it's highly recommended that you have a smaller, lighter lens. Suggested lenses include a 50mm 1.4, 50mm 1.8, or 85mm 1.8. Freelensing can be successful with heavier lenses but you'll be working with both hands and manual focusing, so the lighter the better!

Learning Objectives:
1) To learn the basic technical aspects of freelensing and reverse freelensing
2) To learn how the freelensing technique is best utilized in order to enhance a photograph and when it may be better to avoid freelensing.
3) To learn about the use of freelensing in different natural light conditions such as bright sun or very low light.
4) To expand the ability to create freely and push creativity.
